How to choose the color of your hair prosthesis
Choosing the right color is one of the most important factors in achieving a natural-looking result.
Even the best base will be obvious if the color is wrong.
The main rule is simple:
👉 The color should match the hair at the sides and back of your head. Your own hair is always the main reference, viewed in the right lighting conditions.
The shades shown in this guide represent only a portion of the available range. CrownHair™ also offers additional colors, ASH/ash shades, blends, and combinations with white hair. If you don't find your color, contact us and we will find the best solution for you.
THE 5 FUNDAMENTAL STEPS
1️⃣ Observe your hair the right way
Assess the color:
- In natural light
- Without gel or products
- With dry hair
Avoid choosing the color:
- In the bathroom under artificial light
- Looking at old photos
- Comparing it with images on Instagram
Your real hair is always the main reference, observed in the right lighting conditions.
Lo stesso colore può apparire diverso
È l'illuminazione a modificarne la percezione. Per scegliere il colore consigliamo di confrontare il campione con i propri capelli in più condizioni di luce, dando particolare importanza alla luce naturale.
2️⃣ Understand the color codes
The codes identify the different shades, from the darkest to the lightest. The numbering may vary slightly between manufacturers: this is why CrownHair™ photographs and samples are the most useful reference.
Consult the visual guide below and open each shade to discover its characteristics and recommended use.
Visual Color Guide
#1 - Intense Black
Solid, deep, even black, with a raven effect.
It is the darkest shade in the range and resembles a dyed black, very compact and bold, without visible brown reflections.
Compared to #1A, it appears more pronounced and “absolute”; compared to #1B, it completely eliminates the warm/brown component.
Ideal for: those who want a very intense, even black with a dyed effect.
White hair: this shade is also available with different percentages of white hair. For examples and combinations, contact us via chat or email.
#1A - Natural Cold Black
Natural black with cool undertones, free from noticeable warm or brown highlights.
It has a more natural appearance than #1, but remains very dark and solid. It is suitable for those with naturally black, cool hair who want to avoid the brown highlights typical of #1B.

White hair: this shade is also available for different percentages of white hair. For examples and combinations, contact us via chat or email.
#1B - Warm Natural Black
Natural black with slight brown/warm undertones, especially visible in the light.
It is generally softer and less “solid” than #1A and #1, and can blend better with very dark hair that naturally shows brown highlights.
Ideal for: black or very dark hair with warm/brown undertones.
White hair: this shade is also available with different percentages of white hair. For examples and combinations, contact us via chat or email.
#2 - Dark Brown

White hair: this shade is also available with different percentages of white hair. For examples and combinations, contact us via chat or email.
#3 - Medium Dark Brown
Full and intense dark brown, with a characteristic chocolate finish.
Compared to #2, it appears more openly brown and less deep, with a rich brown tone that is clearly visible, especially in natural light.

#20 - Light Blonde
Light and bright blonde, distinctly lighter than #18 and characterized by an overall lighter result.

Ideal for: natural blonde hair and for those who need a noticeably lighter shade than #18.
White hair: this shade is also available for different percentages of white hair. To see examples or check the most suitable combination, contact us via chat or email.
3️⃣ Warning: hairpieces tend to lighten over time
Because the hair in hairpieces has been processed and treated, it may lighten slightly due to:
- frequent washing
- sun exposure
- sea or pool water
- the use of harsh products
For this reason:
👉 Do not choose a color that is too light, thinking it will remain unchanged.
If you are choosing between two shades, you should consider how they may oxidize over time.
4️⃣ Do you have white or salt-and-pepper hair?
If you have white hair, it is important to match the same proportion to avoid an unnatural look.
Numerous combinations of base color and white hair are available. Since there are many options, not all of them are shown in this guide. Contact us with your base color and desired proportion to find the most suitable combination.
Do not choose a solid color if you have a noticeable amount of white hair.
It would create an unnatural look.
